The air is fresh and the environment is soaked with piety as we head to Guru Nanak Jayanti (also called Guru Nanak Gurpurab), one of the most holy celebrations for Sikhs. It is a holy day where the founder of the religion, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, was born. It is an occasion that Sikhs and the world at large can contemplate his eternal doctrines of unselfish service, universal fraternity, and piety to the divine.
Seva, Simran, and Community
The festival is marked by Akhand Path (a 48-hour-long continuous reading of Guru Granth Sahib), processions, and the music of the gleeful singing of Gurbani. The ethos of the event is really reflected in the Langar-community kitchen; everyone, irrespective of their background, caste, and religion, sits down to eat a simple and nutritious vegetarian meal. This tradition is one full of equality and service to others (seva).
The Heart of the Feast: Pure and Wholesale.
No feast or special occasion could be complete without the dish of all dishes: hearty, cozy rice.
When you sit down with your family and friends to celebrate this beautiful occasion, you should make your table match the purity and quality of the occasion. Oscar Basmati Rice adds a light and mesmerizing smell and a smooth, dainty texture to your celebratory food. It can be aromatic, well-cooked plain rice to serve with a comforting dal, or the rich, festive kheer (rice pudding); our Basmati Chawal will be the blank on which you can project your love and thankfulness.
Share the warmth and enjoy the light, and savor the goodness that holds us all together.
Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti! May your parties be peaceful and full of nutritious and rich food.
